Part-time: Students have the option of taking the program part-time. Part-time students do one research and one art project each year instead of two, making it a four-year program. It is also possible to do the program part-time for two years and full time for one year, making it a three-year program. Part-time students attend all summer residencies throughout their enrollment in the program. Tuition for part-time students is 50% of the full time tuition.
Advanced standing: It is possible to have credit accepted for up to one year of graduate work from other graduate level institutions pending transcript review. Students with advanced standing will need to complete a minimum of two summer residencies and two semesters of independent study preparing their master thesis and their final media art project(s). It is thus possible to complete the program in one year.
First degree: It is possible to be accepted into the program without a first degree. These applicants will be considered individually and, if relevant, an individual supplementary course of study will be arranged prior to commencing the program. A minimum age of twenty four years, a first degree level portfolio and equivalent work experience are required.
MFA degree: A Master of Fine Arts degree is an internationally recognized terminal degree. The MFA degree is awarded by Danube University Krems. The program consists of 90 ECTS-Credits (European Credit Transfer System), equivalent to 60 graduate credits in the U.S. system. MFA Definitions and Standards adopted by CAA College Art Association.

Grading: Students are graded on a Pass/Fail basis by faculty and mentors for semester and residency work. The criteria for semester grading are based on the successful completion of the student's Study Plan (Art and Research Projects) and completion of all semester evaluation forms. The criteria for grading residency work are based on participation in all residency events (symposia, seminars, presentations, critiques, meetings), successful completion of symposia exams (written response to symposia events) and completion of all residency evaluation forms. Graduating students must also pass the final exam consisting of presentation of their Art Project and Research Project (master thesis) to graduation committee.
Credits: Students receive 45 ECTS credits per year, equivalent to 30 graduate credits in the U.S. system. 90 ECTS credits, equivalent to 60 graduate credits in the U.S. system, are required for the MFA degree.
Graduation: Students who complete four semesters and three residencies, successfully presenting their final Art Project and Research Project (master thesis) are eligible to graduate the program. Graduation ceremony takes place after the symposium.
Diploma: Diplomas are given by Danube University Krems in cooperation with Transart Institute.
Transcripts: Transcript requests should be made directly to Danube University Krems. Additionally, graduating students receive a detailed Transcript Attachment from Transart Institute including a list of courses completed, titles and descriptions of all Research and Art Projects and evaluations by student’s final semester faculty and mentor.
Progress: Students who’s work is deemed inadequate by faculty and/or mentor on the basis of quality, quantity or failure to meet the Study Plan are required to appear before the Collegium along with the relevant faculty and/or mentor to evaluate the situation. The Collegium will determine whether the student be required to take a semester’s leave of absence in order to achieve work which is deemed satisfactory. A conclusive collegium meeting takes place the second day of the next residency (prior to the student’s registration) to determine whether the student should continue with the program.
